Our Equipments
Sometime we think that is hard to start a bicycle trip, but it will depend only on your willpower and of course a bicycle. There are different types of bikes and equipment, from the cheapest to the extremely expensive ones.
After hosting bikers from all over the world in our place, we have realized that there are many kinds of way to travel, from the simple to the most high tech equipment,
so we would like to share how we choose our equipment.
When I met Felippe he was planning his second bicycle trip, he traveled through Italy for 3 months and at that time he already had the plan to travel the world in bicycle. When we first met we were working at the cruise ship. On Felippe first contract, he bought Carmem Miranda (This is a cute name for his bike), panniers and he already had all the basic equipment for his trip, we met each other on our second contract on the cruise ship.
After his trip around Italy, we decided to be together and he invited me to travel with him on a bicycle tour around the world and on that moment we started to plan our trip. I did not have even a bike, so our goal was to continue working on ships to get the equipment and to same money for the trip. Our plans were to buy the products in Germany and England.
Nowadays work on cruise ship is not well paid as before, we decided to quit our job and we started to look for alternatives to our trip and after a lot of research, we choose to come to New Zealand, days before we came to New Zealand, Felippe found a bicycle shops and bikes that will fit perfect on me.
When we arrived the first thing we did were buying my bicycle, like everything happens for a reason, the things around New Zealand went really well, we got the work visa and managed to save money to buy rest of the equipments and the trip.
We were buying everything slowly, since we intend to be on the road for a long time, we tried to get products that would give us more comfort. Is important to say that it took around 4 years to get everything we would need, between the life setbacks and a lot of research online about the itens.
